As of January 1, 2011, PROSPECTIVE SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS must register with the Regional Office of Education in order to be employed in any of the districts in Sangamon County. S/He will be required to do the following:
2) Provide proof of TB test (within last 90 days)
3) Provide proof of physical examination (within the last 90 days)
4) Provide an official transcript in a sealed and unopened envelope
5) Pass a fingerprint-based criminal history records check of the Statewide Sex Offender Database and Statewide Child Murderer and Violent Offender Against youth Database
Each applicant will be required to pay a $165 fee:
- $50 for background check (nonrefundable)
- $75 for certificate application (nonrefundable)
- $40 for certificate registration (nonrefundable and good for 4 years)
Upon providing the above-mentioned information and passing the criminal background check, an applicant will receive a Substitute Teacher Authorization certificate and a Substitute Teacher Certificate. An applicant will be required to provide this authorization to employing school districts, who will then make a copy for their file. If someone has an authorization from another region, s/he must still register his/her certificate with the Sangamon County ROE and pay a $20 registration fee. Substitutes who obtained their certificate AND background check before January 1, 2011 will not need to provide this information to the ROE until their current certificate expires. School districts may require additional information to be on file in their respective offices for the prospective substitute teachers.
