Administrator Academy #1159 Building Leadership Capacity Through Teacher Leaders

Districts and school buildings across the state are recognizing the benefits of formalizing teacher leadership programs to improve instruction and student achievement. Participants will learn how schools have expanded teachers' roles and responsibilities and instituted rewards and recognition programs to give teacher leaders new and increased importance in improving classroom instruction. They will also explore the leadership characteristics and skills that successful teacher leaders must possess and how to initiate a teacher leader culture in one's school.  (Minimum of 10 participants needed)

About the Presenter

Don Kachur served as Professor of Education at Illinois State University from 1966-1999. While there, served as the Director of Research, Grants, and Field Services in the College of Education. Don followed that experience after retiring in 1999 with becoming the full time Executive Director of the Illinois Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (Illinois ASCD) from 2001-2008. He now serves as an independent consultant to school districts throughout Illinois and surrounding states.
